Vimshottari Dasha Calculator
Vimshottari Dasha is the primary predictive period system in Vedic astrology, developed by Maharshi Parasara. It assigns a 120-year sequence of planetary periods beginning from the exact nakshatra position of the Moon at birth.
How Vimshottari Dasha works
- Each of the 27 nakshatras is ruled by one of 9 planets (including Rahu and Ketu).
- Your Mahadasha (major period) is determined by the nakshatra of your natal Moon.
- Each Mahadasha is subdivided into Antardashas (sub-periods) and Pratyantars (sub-sub-periods) in proportion to each planet's share of 120 years.
- Total cycle: 120 years. Planetary lengths — Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17.

What is my current Mahadasha?
It depends on your Moon's nakshatra at birth. HoroscopeGPT calculates it instantly from your date, time, and place of birth.
Which dasha is the strongest?
Every planet's dasha delivers according to that planet's natal placement — not an inherent "strongest". A benefic in own sign in a kendra gives wealth in its dasha; a malefic in a dusthana can be harder.
How precise is the calculation?
Precise to within hours. We use Swiss Ephemeris for Moon's exact longitude and compute the elapsed-vs-remaining dasha from the nakshatra traversed ratio.
